Dark Sky

Walking in the Dark

Walking in the Dark

I like walking in the dark.
In the quiet serenity before the world awakens,
I am wrapped in a dark womb-like cocoon
where I am held and cradled by All That Is.

In the dark, everything is quiet and still
Sounds are of nature – the hoot of an owl, a coyote’s howl, the drone of cicadas.
Raucous humans and their machines still sleep
While the moon and stars whirl in the heavens.

Walking in the dark, I must open my eyes wide so as not to stumble.
My eyes must adapt to a different world of shadows and darker shadows.
I must be alert to the vague shapes that are familiar but not clear.
I must stay present to the now.

Walking in the dark is a balm to my Soul
It is a respite from the busyness and activities of the bright daylight.
Walking in the dark, I can commune with Nature and all of her Creations
And I am not afraid!

And when I walk the personal darkness of doubt and grief,
I remember walking in the dark night
And I know that I am held and cradled
Until the morning comes.
